Bunnie XO is opening up about a major health hurdle she recently experienced.
The model, who is married to country superstar Jelly Roll, detailed facing a “death scare” after being misdiagnosed with an aneurysm by two specialists following a stretch of frequent headaches led to her seeking medical treatment.
“I noticed that it was kinda after I would eat certain foods,” Bunnie (whose real name is Alyssa DeFord) explained on the Aug. 8 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast. “I don’t know if it was, like, high in salts or something because I don’t eat bad.”
Her fear that an aneurysm—a bulging or ballooning of a blood vessel—could be the cause of her pain was fueled by the fact that her mom previously suffered from the medical condition.
“It ruptured,” Bunnie shared. “She almost died.”
So when her friend sent a TikTok video about aneurysms in the middle of the night, she immediately messaged her doctor to schedule an MRI scan.
“‘They might have found an aneurysm on your carotid artery,’” the podcast host recalled being told of the results. “One of my biggest fears coming to fruition. I bawled my eyes out.”
Unsatisfied with a singular opinion, Bunnie had a second scan that resulted in a second misdiagnosis that an aneurysm was found on her carotid artery—an artery found on either side of one’s neck.
All of this difficult news, though, was calmed when a neurologist eventually confirmed that she had no aneurysm and nothing to worry about.
“‘I am clearing you,’ he said. ‘It’s a blood vessel that matches on the other side of your carotid artery on the other end,’” Bunnie shared about the positive news that cleared her of the worry she’d been experiencing. “‘This was just one of these things where I get to deliver good news,’ he said. ‘If you wanna go play tackle football, you can.’”
Despite the roller coaster of emotions during the “wild” time, Bunnie is looking on the bright side—and noting how much it meant to have her husband Jelly there to support her.
“I just wanna tell you that it made me appreciate life so much,” she said. “It just really made me realize that, like, none of this s--t f---ing matters, man. I snuggled up so much to my husband these past few days."
